The owners of this historic St George schoolhouse converted it from a seasonal retreat to a full-time home by upgrading the old schoolhouse space and adding a master suite over a two car garage along with a screened in porch and an open deck.
The owners had hoped to retain the interior plaster walls, ceiling, and wainscoting of the original schoolhouse, however, disrepair required replacement with new materials. The original wood floors were sanded and re-stained with an original interior door used for the powder bath/laundry room as a daily reminder of the new homes past.
The addition included a two car garage with stair access up to a foyer to the master suite and main living area complete with large coat/storage closet. The master suite includes a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, walk-in closet with custom built-ins, and a beautiful bath with enclosed steam shower. A screened in porch and an outside deck completes the living area needs. Modern technical features include a tank-less hot water heater, preparation for solar energy system, and preparation for an emergency generator.
The end result of this effort is a beautiful new home that retains the charm of its past history while providing all the comforts of a newly designed home.
